2022 Social Media Content Strategies

As we enter Q2 in 2022, have you asked yourself yet if you’ve met your goals for your company’s social media? Are the numbers where you want them to be? Have you planned enough content for the month and spent an endless number of hours creating stories, captions, Reels, and videos to save to your feed and highlights?

Still Trending for Twenty Twenty-Two

Now that I have your full attention, I’d like to dive in and cover a few strategies that will help point you in the right direction for the remainder of 2022 so you can crush your social media and content goals. Of course, if you and your team are still struggling to understand your key metrics on social, need assistance in finding your target audience, or wondering if your social strategy is working at all, we’d be happy to schedule a complimentary consultation call to see if REINS Marketing can help answer your social media questions.

8 Strategies to Implement on Social Right Now:

  1. The Staircase Ladder Method is no longer valid. Shorter + more concise hashtags are given priority by the algorithm.

Using 20 - 30 hashtags on your posts to increase visibility was so 2021. Now, it’s harder than ever to appear on the Explore page if you use over 20 hashtags, and you may be potentially targeted and flagged as spam if you’re not too careful. Switch up your hashtags and use a few that are easier to rank on (less than > 100,000 uses) and then a few more that are similar to your own content but has 800,000 (but less than 1m) uses. Overusing hashtags (for example, using the same two in every post) will not perform as well as switching it up and interacting with new hashtag collections.

  2. Videos and carousels are your social media besties.

It’s true - video content is KING. Anything that takes more than a few seconds to get through (more photos in your carousel post or a 10 - 15 second video) will perform much better than a standalone photo with a longer caption. Video engagement is higher on Instagram because of the algorithm’s push for more Reels and video content to appear and populate on the Explore page.

  3. Respond to DMs. Don’t leave them hanging.

Obviously, you don’t have to respond to spammers/scammers/junk messages, but it is nice to respond to someone’s question or like their mention of your company in their stories. Showing up, showing that you care, and responding in a timely manner builds brand connection and brand loyalty.

  4. Engage DAILY with your audience. This does NOT mean spam accounts, leave 50 comments on your followers’ posts, or message 20 followers asking them if they’re interested in trying out your product…

No one likes to hop on their Instagram and see a five-paragraph message waiting for them asking to try out the latest supplement on the market. Besides, wouldn’t that make you cringe as the writer of that very message? Engaging with your target audience doesn’t have to mean endless scrolling on social apps. In fact, less is more.

Engaging with your audience each day means:

    • Respond to your DMs.

    • Engage with a few stories at the top of your Instagram page.

    • Take a few minutes and like several posts from a few followers. Bonus if you comment on them as well.

    • Engage with a few hashtag collections that you follow (like, comment, share and save).

    • Follow and engage with someone new from your ideal target audience.

  5. Repurpose your own content.

Not feeling all that motivated to create new content today? Simply create a post that tells your followers to read your latest blog post or repurpose a story that performed well as an Instagram post. Create a story asking followers for content they’d like to see more of on social media. Polls, quizzes, and asking ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions are great ways to increase your engagement and find new ways to repurpose or create new content.

  6. Tag your loyal supporters/followers/friends/community members in posts when you’re about to make an announcement or have some buzzworthy news content to share.

You can still tag up to 20 accounts in your post - use it to your advantage! For example, maybe you’ve just posted a blog post, or finished a photoshoot for a product launch, and you have several accounts or loyal followers in mind who you’d like to tag to give them a heads up on your latest content. Don’t forget to notify followers of new posts and stories by reminding them to turn the bell notifications on in the upper right-hand side of your profile page.

  7. Stay consistent and relevant. Your company’s mission statement will help you stay on brand.

Brand loyalty builds over time. It doesn’t happen overnight. Stay consistent with your posting, use a tool to plan your timeline and automatically publish posts for you, and stay on brand. Reflect on your company’s mission statement and its purpose to help craft your tone of voice in your captions. Remain relevant and interesting in all the content that you deliver, and you’ll begin to see results.

  8. You don’t have to dance on Reels to stay trendy. Just start posting 10 second Reels about your company, story, or product.

Unpopular opinion: You don’t have to show your face on Reels. For companies, this is easier to do than smaller businesses or mom and pop shops. Highlight one of your items, mention you have a flash sale coming up, take a tour of your office, or share some exciting industry news. The ideas are endless. Need a bit of help?
